30-July-2012. The 2012 Melges 32 World Championship will be taken place this September. It will take place starting on 20th and will last until the 29th in Newport Rhode Island. The race is being hosted by the New York Yacht Club, who have previously hosted the NYYC Race week at Newport.

Twenty Four teams are already registered and are set to race, while more than 30 different teams are expected to compete in the Melges 32 Worlds. The amount of teams competing may break the previous record of 32 that was set in San Francisco back in 2010.

With the completion of the NNYC Race at Newport and the U.S. National Championship this weekend the teams set to compete are putting their training into high gear and getting ready for the Melges 32 race.

Some of the World’s greatest teams will be competing in the Worlds race. Teams such as Vincenzo Onorato's Mascalzone Latino, John Kilroy's Samba Pa Ti, Jason Carroll on Argo, and Ryan DeVos on Volpe. Fans of high performance yacht racing should be excited as Reigning World Champion William Douglas on Goombay Smash will return to try and defend his title and the 2009 Champion Pieter Taselaar on Bliksem is returning to try and win another title. It looks like it is shaping up to be an exciting 2012 Melges 32 Worlds Race.
