26-July-2012. A new world record time is expected to be set this weekend during the 384-nautical mile Adui Sydney to Gold Coast Yacht Race. Experts have looked at the weather forecast and predict that the current Sydney to Hobart race record holder, Wild Oats XI will arrive at the finish off Southport Surf Club during the afternoon on Sunday. If this happens, Wild Oats XI will shatter the previous record by 5 hours! This was a record that has stood for the past 13 years.
The race will be hosted by Southport Yacht Club and it will begin at 1pm on Saturday. After the race celebration will take place at the Southport Yacht Club. Unfortunately Wild Oats XI won’t be able to enter the dock where the Southport Yacht Club is hosting, because it is too shallow of water and Oats is too big. The crew will be dropped off for the celebrations and the yacht will head north to Brisbane.
65 of the world’s largest and fastest yachts are set to race in the event. It is going to be one of the best yacht races of the year.
