15 December 2011 - The French Riviera also known as Côte d'Azur is part of the Mediterranean coastline located in the Southeast Corner of France and it also includes the sovereign State of Monaco. It is generally considered to extend from either the Italian Border or the French Town of Menton in the East down towards St. Tropez and even Cassis located in the West, though it has no official recognized boundaries.
The French Riviera is considered one of the major cruising and yachting destinations with several marinas along its coast. The factors that made this place one of the sought after holiday destinations for vacationers is its sophisticated aura, climate and cuisine. Reports from the Côte d'Azur Economic Development Agency says that each year the French Riviera hosts about 50 percent of the world’s yachting fleet with 90 percent of the magnificent yachts visiting the coast of the region at least once or twice in their lifetime. The popular ports of the region are: Cannes, St. Tropez, Monaco and Antibes.
The charter season of the French Riviera usually starts from April and ends in October, considering July to August as the hottest months, with the lightest winds and also the largest visitors coming from almost every part of the world. This is also the highest season for the yachting charter. Another perfect time to visit the place is from April to May and September to October.
The cuisine that awaits your taste buds is the product of both the warm and dry climate which basic ingredients include: sardines, rockfish, octopus, sea urchin, garlic, olive oils, olive, chickpeas, lamb, goat and other local fruits. The most popular wines that produced in the area is Rose Wine and mourvèdre from grapes, while Cassis on the other hand is known for producing the only white wine in the area.
The weather in the French Riviera is usually hot and dry in summer. Mild winters are also present in their climate. The area’s temperature is moderated by the Mediterranean however days of frost are experienced during the winter. During the summer, temperature exceeds 30 degrees Celsius.
