PORTLAND PORT ROLLS OUT THE RED CARPET FOR SUPERYACHTS

  • PDF

26 April 2012

Portland, the venue for this year’s Olympic and Paralympic sailing races, is set to become a superyacht hotspot this summer with multiple deep water berths and anchorages available.

Portland Port, situated at the end of a peninsula off the Dorset coast, has partnered up with superyacht concierge service MGMT to offer a bespoke service for superyachts setting sail for the 2012 Olympics.

The Olympic sailing takes place directly after the Superyacht Cup Race in Cowes.  By basing the yachts at Portland, owners and charterers heading for stadium events in the capital can now get round the problem of Thames River height restrictions, thanks to helicopter transfers from Dorset into the heart of London.

Amanda Milner, Portland Port’s Commercial Sales Manager, said: ‘As some big sailing yachts are unable to cruise down the Thames, Portland would be a good location to use as a base.  Yacht owners and their guests who wish to be in London for the 2012 Olympic Games will be able to leave their yachts at Portland Harbour, and take a helicopter transfer directly into the heart of London, where the stadium events will be held.’

Portland Port, which has multiple deep water berths suitable for vessels over 24m LOA, is also perfectly placed as a stop-over destination between Falmouth, the Solent and the Isle of Wight, for superyachts participating in the 2012 Regatta circuit.

Portland Port can also arrange bunkering, skilled marine engineers, coded aluminium and steel welders, electricians and machinists, joiners and carpenters, fibreglass and hydraulic repairs, high pressure washing and diving specialists, shoreside power and fresh water. It is also worth remembering that portland Port is a great option for loading yachts and has successfully assisted with the relocation and forward transportation of these highly valuable assets.

The pretty, traditional seaside town of Weymouth is only 15 minutes away.

Amanda added: ‘If you or your family or friends want to come ashore, then Portland Port can act as a gateway to the South West.  Visitors can take the time to explore the nearby UNESCO World Heritage Sites of Bath, Stonehenge and the Jurassic Coast.’

Atlas B2B will be working with Portland Port to provide superyachts with any equipment or spare parts that they require before, during or after their stay.

Best Regards,
Robert Chisholm - Managing Director

  • PDF

24 April 2012

AntillesmapThe Caribbean Sea has a range of attractive islands with diverse cultures, and perfect sailing surroundings with clear water; the arch of islands is called the Antilles. Key destinations are the Virgin Islands, St Barths, Antigua, the Genadines, St Martin and St Lucia with sandy beaches and palm trees.

The weather is usually sunny for 12 hours per day with few clouds and sprinkled drops. There is a 5 Degree difference between the warmest and the coldest months of the year. The climate is ideal – the daily temperatures are fairly consistent all year round, with an average temperature of 80 Degrees Fahrenheit (27 Degrees C).

Antigua and Barbuda was once the primary port for Admiral Nelson's Fleet, Antigua ("An TEE Ga") is now a charter and vacation that offers a incredible wealth of private, fine soft beaches, dazzling coral reefs and several gorgeous bays.
Barbados is the most eastern island in the Caribbean, with an area of 430 square kilometres. Under British Rule from the 1600's until 1966 - it is a mix of British, African and Caribbean culture.

British Virgin Islands (BVI) is a group of British-controlled islands 60 miles from Puerto Rico, the British Virgin Islands (BVI) are a mecca for sailing and yachting.
Dominica is the youngest island in the Caribbean, there remains a stunning sharpness to her terrain. Beautiful, dramatic angles abound, rivers run clear and fast and forests remain untouched. The uncompromising beauty of the island is everywhere - rolling hills, secluded coastlines, virgin woods. Dominica is often called “The Nature Island of the Caribbean”.

Grenada is a rolling, mountainous island, covered with fragrant spice trees and rare tropical flowers. In the interior of this volcanic island are cascading rivers and waterfalls, lush rainforests, and one of the most breathtakingly beautiful mountain lakes imaginable. The capital, St. George's, is widely held to be the loveliest city in the Caribbean.

Exotic destinations are getting more inquiries than ever before; most of those destinations had set eyes on the yacht charter industry, among them the Galapagos Islands.

Located on the Equator in the vast Pacific Ocean, the archipelago has a unique and fragile ecosystem. No other destination compares to the Galapagos Islands due to their status as a National Park and Marine Reserve completely protected by the government of Ecuador, who has kept the 90% of this paradise untouched by human's settlements and pollution.

20_Jan_2012_Kapaz_Marina20 January 2012 – Visitors to the all-new Karpaz Gate Marina (KGM), the only luxury marina in Northern Cyprus, can now benefit from a range of new services and facilities which have been added over the course of the past few months, following the soft-opening of the marina in June 2011.  The next phase of the marina development will soon be launched.

The marina is part of the Karpaz Bay Resort, which is being developed as a first class tourist destination which will allow guests to enjoy the range of activities of the local “Karpaz” Peninsula, an undiscovered cruising ground which has only recently been opened up to international visitors.

Visitors to the marina can now enjoy the sheltered marina with berths for 300 yachts, including 15 for super yachts and mega yachts. Access control and comprehensive CCTV security systems have been installed, and the stylish promenade has also been completed, offering uninterrupted views of the marina.

The new Hemingway’s Restobar is one of the main attractions at the marina, and is a lively and elegant restaurant offering formal and casual dining, both day and night. It has a spacious, bright and airy interior with stylish and welcoming décor, and an extensive outdoor terrace overlooking the marina. The restaurant is already attracting acclaim from locals and tourists alike, and hosts regular events and promotions which are proving popular, such as a weekly barbeque and themed nights.

A new 300 ton travel lift, which can service vessels of up to 10m beam, 4m draft and more than 45m length, including mono- and multi-hulls, is now operational. Also, laundry facilities and wireless internet access is available within the marina, and a Mini Market – selling everything needed for a comfortable stay at Karpaz is now open. Car rental is also available from various local vendors should visitors wish to explore the local region to visit tourist attractions and leisure facilities such as golf courses, and surrounding villages and towns.

Development at Karpaz Bay Resort is continuing in 2012. A stylish beach club and a lively commercial promenade with shops, fitness centre, restaurants and bars, including a ship chandlery and boat sales will soon be completed. A gas station for visiting yachts will also offer duty free fuel.

Karpaz Gate Marina’s expansive dry dock, which is the largest of its kind in the eastern Mediterranean, is also nearing completion. The workshops are being fitted out and several international marine brands have committed to taking space within these.

Itay Singer, owner of the marina management company Sea-Alliance Group said, “The marina has proved to be very calm and protected in every weather condition encountered since the breakwaters were completed. We are pleased to now be launching the latest additional facilities, and are delighted with the feedback already about the luxurious look and feel of the marina, and compliments about our marina staff.”
